Dr. Saeger and Dr. Olson reside in Fremont and are proud of our city, schools, and students!  We take pride in our commitment to excellence in dentistry and the personal care we deliver.   We are starting this program because we believe we can truly make a difference in the health of our youth!  Listed below are some statistics:

  • An athlete is 60 times more likely to suffer harm to the teeth when not wearing a mouth guard. –American Dental Association
  • It is estimated that mouth guards prevent more than 200,000 injuries each year. –Academy of General Dentistry
  • Sports-related dental injuries account for more than 600,000 emergency room visits each year! – U.S. Centers for Disease Control
  • Victims of knocked out teeth may face lifetime dental costs of $10,000-$20,000 per tooth. – National Youth Sports Foundation for Safety

Stock mouth guards and boil and bite mouth guards, which can be purchased on your own, are loose fitting and can interfere with breathing and speaking, most do not properly cover back teeth, and they have less cushioning than a custom fit athletic mouth guard.  A custom fit guard is important to prevent injury.  It is more comfortable therefore athletes will be more likely to wear it and keep it in place.

If you would like your high school athlete to have a free custom athletic mouth guard made by Dr. Saeger and Dr. Olson at Nye Avenue Dental, be informed it will require two short visits to our dental office.  Please fill out and sign the attached form and send it with your athlete at their assigned time.  Please note, we cannot make a custom fitting guard for athletes in mixed dentition (have both permanent and primary teeth present) or athletes who are currently wearing braces or doing clear aligner therapy (ie: invisalign).

We look forward to protecting the oral health of our youth and we are thankful to be an integral part of the Fremont community!
